Help Us Help Leo:

Leo is only 22 pounds and he should be at least 40 pounds. We brought him into the rescue on New Year's Eve. Many of the tests we ran showed normal. He has no parasites, is heartworm negative, his bloodwork is normal, he has no abdomen obstructions, his kidney and liver appears normal. The vet thinks he is suffering from a pancreatic enzyme deficiency. This means he doesn't have an enzyme that breaks down his food and allows digestion. All indications point to this disorder. We'll get the lab result back later next week. In the meantime, we are putting him on a powder which will allow him to digest his food. If he has this disorder, he will need this assistance for life. The good news is this will allow him to gain and sustain weight. So, he should live a normal life.

Leo is super sweet. He's getting along well with the other dogs in his foster home. He's extremely happy with his foster family. He's comfortable and soaking up all the love he can get. He moves from the couch to a dog bed and back again. He loves being comfy! You can definitely tell he loves being in a loving home. Many of us at BRAT have gone over there to meet this special, brave boy. He's soaking up all the attention he can get.

He obviously won't be available for adoption until he has gained weight and is sustaining the weight. We could use all the financial help we can get for him. UPDATE: Leo does NOT have this enzyme deficiency. As it stands now, there is no medical condition that could have caused this. He's been with us almost a week and has gained 10 pounds. We would like to thank everyone for your outpouring of support for this precious boy. Now, we're just waiting to see if he can keep gaining and able to sustain the weight.
